Social Studies: Intimate Learning in Community – bell hooks (12/21/2025)

December 21, 2025 @ 1:00 pm 3:00 pm

DECEMBER 2025:

Join us for a guided discussion of an essay by bell hooks on friendship between Black and white women — the history, barriers, and most importantly, how to begin to repair conditions to develop mutually respectful relationships rooted in solidarity.  Space is limited.
—————————————————

Each month, we will read a short (essay/chapter-length) piece of social or political theory and as small, intimate groups, we will convene for a guided discussion with a balance of understanding theory and developing praxis (putting theory into practice). We will read and analyze short pieces of historical and contemporary theory from the likes of Vine Deloria Jr., Robin Wall Kimmerer, Franz Fanon, bell hooks, Sylvia Federici, and more. Readings are provided for attendees to review in advance.
